Niecy Nash, Grand Marshal of Cozumel Carnival 2011
Isla Cozumel welcomes Niecy Nash as grand marshal of Carnaval!
March 2011 – With spectacular crystal clear waters, white sand beaches and endless sunshine, the Mexican Caribbean island of Cozumel is a tropical island oasis and ultimate vacation destination to be explored – which is one of the reasons why actress and TV Host Niecy Nash (“The Insider”) visited the beautiful island off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Cozumel (also known as Isla Cozumel) played host to Nash as the TV Personality served as the first-ever celebrity Grand Marshal of the island’s annual Carnaval celebration.
Each year since 1908, Cozumel has celebrated the pre-Lenten festival with colorful motifs, vibrant music and ethnic dancers strolling the streets in festive garments and sharing their rich history with visitors from all over the world. Locals and visitors enjoy five days of fun that includes parades, floats, regional food, music and dancing. Nash, with the Mayor of San Miguel and local officials, rode the final float on Carnaval’s last day, Fat Tuesday, and had a fabulous time, tweeting “Trying to join Carnaval dancers! Dancing in the streets of Cozumel!”
Prior to her parade duties, Nash and her longtime friend Jamil Barrie (who will serve as bridesmaid at Nash’s upcoming wedding) enjoyed Cozumel’s waters with a snorkeling session and a tour of the Discover Mexico (www.discovermexico.org) attraction, the newest and most visited park in Cozumel that offers tourists a truly representative display of Mexican artifacts, crafts, and architectural models.
Nash also enjoyed the breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea while relaxing at the elegant Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, located on a half mile of white sandy beach, steps away from the world’s second largest coral reef system.
In addition to celebrating her 41st birthday on the island with Barrie, Nash was scouting Cozumel as a possible honeymoon destination for her upcoming May wedding to electrical engineer, Jay Tucker. Barrie introduced Nash to Tucker.
